NCLaker
Anyone have recommendations on pontoon scissor trailers? I'll be towing a 25' Premier with a big motor no the back. Need scissors due to low water landing and flexibility of use. I'll be using it to periodically tow mostly around metro, a few longer trips. Not sure if they are all basically equal as far as stabilizability - that is what I am most concerned about.Leaning towards a Hoosier w/ trailer brakes. Anyone with person feedback on this brand? I like that they have a wider cradle option (48" vs ~44")Thanks!
Valv
I would strongly discourage the scissor trailer. You will have to learn to use it very carefully and not tip boat on it's side, especially with a big heavy motor hanging on back.Sooner or later it will happen, see your boat tipping over and drag the pontoon on the road it's a real shocker.Try to study a different way to load the boat onto a standard pontoon trailer, if possible. fasternu
My father had to temporarily use a scissors trailer when he first purchased his pontoon, as the dealer was waiting for a new load of bunks to come in. Wow, was he happy to get the bunks. The scissors trailer just isn't made for trips down the road, and was not very stable. It is made for the people who live on the lake and just need something to pull the pontoon out for the winter and drive it to storage. As for loading/unloading in shallow water, we have done it several times. You just have to use the winch and not drive it on, or have someone willing to get a little wet. If you are driving, get the bunks, you will be happier.
Valv
I helped at least 1/2 dozen people with pontoon boats standing on their side after making a quick turn (most of the times was on an interstate ramp). It happened to me too, with a boat of mine some years ago. I now haul for a living and we have a scissor type to pickup, well one day out of Hastings I made a quick take off turning...and BAM here goes the pontoon on it's side, dragging on pavement. It's awful to see in your rearview mirror, and hard to watch landing back straight after you push it back down, they land hard
