wooly1
We have a dock that is 30' long and still is in about 36" of water at the end. To get to decent fishing depth we would need to add another 40'. How far can you build a dock before it's a liability? Does putting lights on the long dock reduce your liability? Obviously you can't build a daock from shore to shore but how long is too long? wooly1
Thanks Gissert, that was my wonderment. No definitive allowable length. Pretty vague for the land o lakes. I've seen docks that would make a pier blush. Was trying to figure how many additional sections would be too much.I'll have to talk to see what his definition of a "navigational" hazard is. Dave B
My grandparents are on Lake Edward in Brainerd/Merrifield. Their land is VERY gently sloping, so they have about 100-150' of dock-but the water is still barely 2' deep at the end. On the sides of their land and dock is reeds. So I would say that they could go 200-300' and still only be into 3-4' of water and not be a navigation hazard. I think that if you are out more than 20' than your neighbors, someone might start to care.
Guest
We use to have a dock that went out to the 8 mile on mille lacs but they made us take it out.
Gissert
I went to the DNR web page and typed in "docks" in a search engine. Basically, there is no length limit, but the dock cannot become a navigational hazard. The regulation semed (to me)to be pretty vague as to not be too arbitrary. If you have any further questons, your local CO should be able to guive you guidance.
united jigsticker
I remember that dock. We used to take the kids there every Sunday and fish. Then they ordered it be removed.Well, I guess it goes to show, good things can just never last.good fishing
