Handheld with chip

Question

Looking to upgrade the old garmin. Has anybody used the new endura series with a lakemaster chip in it? How do you like it? What about the Gramin Dakota 10? I'm trying to stay under $300.

The Dakota 10 doesn't take any kind of memory cards, you'll have to upload maps into the internal memory which I think is about 850 MB.

The GPSMAP 60csx has been going on sale lately at some stores for a $199, that's a pretty dang good price on a excellent GPS, I couldn't pass it up and bought one a few months ago.

Couldn't tell you anything about the Endura.....

Watch for some deals on the Garmin Colorado 400t and 400i. Great units, some very good prices right now.

Some other new efforts in a handheld just out this season, to me at least, are big time "Fail's"...won't name it...but it's not too hard to figure it out.

I have "0" hesitation in recommending the Garmin Oregon 400's, 78sc, or the new 62's.

With the Garmin Lakemaster maps you have more options what you can do with those maps. Rather than buying a chip you can buy a CDrom and download that onto 2 seperate chips 1 chip for a seperate unit. Also with the CDrom you can veiw the map on your computer and create waypoints and routs then transfer them to your GPS unit you also can connect the software and your GPS unit to google eath and overlay routs and waypoints onto gogle earth.

Iam not sure if lowrance can do all that or not. But I can tell you after recieving the CDrom last weak its prety darn cool.

Yes, the 60csx does take the MicroSD Card, I've got the Lakemaster Woods/Rainy in mine.

I got my GPSMAP60 at the ' Foremost Outfitter ' place and I also saw it on sale at B.P.S. too for that same price but I haven't seen any sales in a couple weeks now, if that 400t or 400i come in at your price range that Ed was talking about, I would take a look at those too, more ' bells and whistles ' with those.

Keep your eye's open, something will come along.

Got a good deal on a Oregon 450t on a 4th of July sale at the "Foremost Outfitter" for $369 ($130 off). I really like it so far, now just trying to look around for a Lakemaster card for it. More bells and whistles than probably needed, but a good deal on a great unit.

I think you made the right choice. My father-in-law has a H2O Lowrance that is 6 months old. Already he is having issues with it. It won't turn on with the batteries but it will turn on using the car adapter. With the Garmin you will be able to find a lot of TOPO maps for free, so that helps with cost too.
