Trolling motor problem...

MnWilly

Question

I have a motorguide w75. It is 4 years old. Last year it completely quit working. I took it to an authorized service center. They told me that the "main board??" was fried. They took care of contacting motorguide for me and motorguide agreed to provide the part, but I was on the hook for labor. It was about 80 bucks. Problem solved motor worked great all the rest of last year and this spring.

Over the July 4th week I was up on Lake Vermilion for a fishing/reunion trip. The motor quit working again on the second day. I haven't taken it in yet but I suspect it is the same problem again as the symptoms are exactly the same.

Questions:

1. Has anyone had the same problems with this motor?

2. Does anyone know if this is a common failure, or did I just get unlucky 2X?

3. What would you do? Get it fixed and keep it, or get rid of it and go with a different motor?

Thanks in advance guys/gals

MIKE

I've replaced control boards and cables in MK Maxxums, its fairly simple. It could be the switch or foot control depending if its cable or electronic control. I replaced my Maxxum control board last year and another for a buddy, still working great. Not sure about MG. Do a google search lots of good info out there. Good Luck!
