Honda 3.0L V-6 Spark Plug Change

Recommended Posts

Gents,

I would like to change the plugs on a 2000 Accord with the 3L V-6, and I am wondering if anyone here has done this themselves recently. Each cylinder has its own coil that is attached via a small hex drive screw. Are these coils difficult to remove, or once the screw is released does the coil just pull off? I think it should be a pretty straightforward plug job, but I don't want to screw it up like I have on other past projects.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Coils are typically pretty easy to remove. Just loosen the screws and the coils should come straight out and the plugs will be left exposed. Remove the plugs and you're set.

I don't know which way the Accord V6 sits, but sometimes those import V6's can be tricky to reach the plugs/coils unless the cylinder heads are left and right instead of front and back.

Although it may be ideal to change the plugs when the engine is cold more often than not tune-ups in the shop are done on hot/warm engines with little to no problems. Newer plugs are nickle plated and typically come out with little more than reasonable effort. Even after a 70 - 100k mile life span.

I just had a caravan the other day that I could not get the spark plugs to budge. The van had been in the lot since the morning and had more than enough time to cool off. I could hear the porcelain starting to crack under the pressure I was using.

After a five minute drive around the block to get the engine up temp and they came right out.
