Question

I just bought a Hummingbird 788ci and I'm about to install it on my 97' ranger bass boat. Should I be worry about drilling screw holes to mount the transom transducer??? Or should I just mount it inside the transom. I'm worry that I might ruin the boat by drilling some screw holes.

I'm a newbie when it comes to boats...

Drill the right size pilot holes and seal them with an underwater grade silicone sealant. Doesn't matter weather you use the transducer board or just put the bracket on the boat, you'll need to put holes in your boat if you go this route. I wouldn't worry about the holes though, they won't ruin the boat and they are easier to repair in glass than aluminum in case you ever wanted to seal them.

Shoot-through-hull mounts are a good option too --- no holes, but it's a bit tricky to get a good installation (level and no air bubbles) and it can be tough to get access to the bilge on some boats.

I have a glass boat with both transom mount transducers and shoot-thru transducers. I use the transom one all the time, the shoot-thru is strictly a back-up transducer.

Hope this helps, good luck.
