60 Horse 2 Stroke Merc Exhaust Odor

Big Bobber

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a used 60 horse 2 stroke 3 cylinder oil inject Merc outboard engine. There is an odor after trolling for extended periods. Is this normal or could I be getting some blow by? I started using AMSOIl in the engine.

Thanks

With AMSOil it usually takes a couple of tanks of gas to purge the old dino oil. When I switched my old 40 hp Merc to AMSOil it was about 2 tanks before I really noticed the difference. Be patient you'll notice the performance inprovement very soon.

What "performance improvements" have you noted with Amsoil? I switched mine over last year (Merc 60 HP, 3 cyl), and while I have no complaints, I can't say that it runs noticably better (it runs great, but it always has). It may smoke less, but it's not "smokeless" like the claims (in all fairness, my motor mixes at a constant 50:1 unlike some oil injection systems that vary the ratio).
