RE-waterproofing a garment

Hoffer

Question

So..i spent a lot of time earlier this Spring with my Gander Tech h20 in the rain. I found out that its really not waterproof - at least not anymore. I have done a little research and there seems to be 2 options. 1. Buying the spray on stuff or 2. buying the stuff that you wash and then dry the garment with.

The opinion seems to be that the stuff you wash it in is the best? It apparently is able to soak in much better during a wash cycle. You then dry it to activate it.

My question is...has anyone else tried this and does it work? My followup question is that does this harm the washer or dryer? I mean if this stuff coats the garment so well- i would think it may also "stick" to the inside of the washer or dryer??

Thanks for any feedback!

Hoffer

I'v used it on my ice fishing bibs and parka, it worked great at first, but my knees started to get wet, so i did the bibs over again let em dry and then sprayed them with a silicone waterproofing, i'v had dry knees ever scince. So then before my boundry waters trip last year I did the same thing to my backpacking tent, it rained buckets on us, my tent was the only one that did not leak. As for my washer, i'v never noticed any problems, it seems to be fine. If your going to spray the silicone do so outside, not even in the garage, all the way outside, that is some strong stuff. Good luck.
