Small cluster of grass with some orange stuff clinging to it...really brilliently colored. I figured it was some kind of mold, or fungus? We have about 5000 mushrooms in our yard that traditionally are never there.

We went to the store, came back and the orange stuff was gone and black stuff in it's place...first time we have noticed this in 32 years. Any ideas on what it might be?

A fungus that should disappear by this weekend.

With all this rain, cold temps, cloudy days, this late into spring, there's some strange things happening in yards right now.

The mushrooms are EVERYWHERE, from lawns that are irrigated, to ones that are not.

From yards that are in the shade to full sun.

Once the sun comes out and things dry out, it should clear up.

Lwn is dead on. It's a rust fungus. If it's turned black it has aleady run it's course. If you've been watering with the rain you should hold off until things dry out. If it's just from the rain, you'll have to wait like everyone else.
