What am I missing???

Where do I find the serial number on my mercury 20horse?? I found a spot that says its the serial number but I cant match it anywhere to get info on the motor. The serial numbers on the motor are B190746 and the motor is an 1987. This is the serial number I find on the net 20hp 2cyl B114231 1987. I am lost

1987 is correct. B114231 refers to the starting serial number for 1987 and if you look at the next year, B238464 was the starting serial number for 1988. Yours (B190746) falls between them, which makes it a 1987 model year. Make sense?

All I can say is Duh on my part. Never relized that serial numbers ran like that. I must also admit to my stupidy that you are to read threw all the directions before getting all frustrated
