fishing addict
I am going to add some rod holders to my boat soon (to use for long line trolling, and pulling 3-ways..) any suggestions on placement of these on the boat? How far apart? Any places to avoid? Recommended types of holders .. thanks

Finlander
On my Pro-V I have three flush mounted bases on each side. All within easy reach of each seat location. One in the very front, one next to my drivers seat behind the steering wheel, and one on the rear. All on the gunnel rails. Buy extra bases so you can position your rods for any situation be it trolling, still fishing, or rigging. Make sure the rod holders have a rod locking devise to hold your rod or else a fish or snag will claim your rod in a heartbeat!Good Luck!!
Scott Steil
Take a trip down to Red Wing while there is a tournament going on. You will get to see how a lot of the tournament guys have their boats rigged.Otherwise, sit in your boat and imagine the situtation. One thing with rod holder is you want them to be elevated enough so you can adust the rod tips up or down. I like the RAM 2000's because they come with extensions. If you ever pull boards you will want those rod tips high. ------------------Mille Lacs Guide Servicewww.millelacsguideservice.com
Chris Haley
If you flush mount, make sure the holder is placed closer to the inside of the boat to ensure range of motion up and down. If you center them on a lund, you will run into problems tilting the rod back. The but will hit the edge before you are tilted very high.
walleyewizard
Scott, I noticed you mentioned the Ram 2000. I recently purchased the Cabela's brand and when I got them home I noticed they do not work well with an open-face reel. Do you have that problem with the Ram's. Also, is the extension sturdy enough when you hook into that BIG one?
