Oil mixture

I just picked up an old (78) evinrude 25 horse and was wondering what mixture everyone uses. I don't want to replace plugs all fall when I am duck hunting. Thanks.

1/2 quart oil to 6 gallons of gas ??? umm....

I have the exact same motor and have been running it 50/1 (2 cycle) for the last 5 years and have only replaced the plug once.

READ the back of the 2 cycle bottle for proper ratio on how much fuel you put in, the quarts have a clear section on the side with ounces marked.

Don't put 1/2 quart in and go. This may be about the right ratio for some oils, but will vary greatly from brand to brand. One type of oil may give you 50/1, another type could be 24/1, or worse yet, 150/1.

50/1 and you will be good to go.

With MOST this includes (quicksilver, shipmate, viking (form of cenex), quaker state)this are the ones that I have used, 2 cycle oil 1/2 a quart is a pint which is 16 oz which if you look on the back of the mixing chart when added to 6 gals results in a 50:1 ratio I believe OMC is the same way. So you guys are both saying the same thing. I agree that 2 cycle vary some but I wouldn't say that they very greatly. I have used 50:1 in all of the outboards that I have ran and I have never burned one up. I would stick with 50:1 and you should be fine. Yes just look on the back of the bottle at the mixing chart and mix it accordingly.

50:1 for anything manufactured after about 1965. Use a manufacturers oil such as OMC. Make sure it is rated for water cooled engines. (TCWIII)
