2005 Silverado "SERVICE 4WD"

Recommended Posts

I was pulling my fish house this morning and got behind some slow Sunday drivers. Kicked it down to go around them and SERVICE 4WD shows up on the display. I have also had this happen out on the lake last winter while I was using the 4x4 and another time when it was in 2wd just cruising down the highway. The truck is a 2005 Silverado 1500 with 5.3 V8 with about 84,000 miles on it. Anybody have any ideas as to whats wrong with it and maybe a ballpark estimate of what it will cost to have it fixed? Thanks.

I did not have any lights on my 4x4 selector buttons and did not see what fuse it was tied to, so I replaced the switch ~$60. Then I found the proper fuse associated with the switch and replaced that and I was good to go.

Part number on the switch is GM#19168767

People have been known to remove the switch and touch up the soldering on the connectors to get them working again as well.

To bad you are not closer since I have an extra switch sitting here that I know works fine.
