OK. I just weeded my veggie garden yesturday and noticed fleas all around the treated timber of the garden. This is the first time I have noticed this. They are eating the leaves to my peppers grrr.

Why/how did they show up. And how can I get rid of them?

I doubt that they're fleas. See if you can cut off a few leaves that have the bugs on them and put them in a plastic bag. Take it to your local garden store and ask the oldest person there what you can buy to gas the suckers and still be able to eat whatever it is that's supposed to be growing there.

dkhntr,

I suspect what you might have are flea beetles. Been awhile since they've been an issue here in our gardens but do see them from time to time. Catching them is tricky as they tend to hop just about the time you want to grab them. A sweep net works great but most people don't have those lying around. A hat may work if you sweep it over the vegetation and quickly deposit the contents in a gallon or larger sized plastic bag. Take a look at this release from the U and see if this describes your problem. If so, it tells you what control measures will work. Good luck!
