iPilot vs AutoPilot questions

archerystud

Question

Hey guys,

Well I just got back from India so my dad took my boat for the opener. I'm hoping to buy a trolling motor in the next day or two so I can put a new one on by Wed.

I'd like to get an iPilot on the new one but I'd like to have a foot control as well. Do I pretty much have to get a Terrova then? I really only need a 55lb thrust for my boat. Or for those of you with the iPilot, do you even use the foot control anymore?

Otherwise how is the AutoPilot? Seems like if you are going to get one or the other you might as well go with the iPilot.

Thanks for the input.

I just switched from the V2 to the terrova with ipilot. I've been using the remote most of the time, however the foot pedal is important to me. I fish the river and at times rig with a rod in both hands. I also like the option of being able to turn the boat to land a fish when by myself. Tough to work the remote with a net in one hand and your rod in the other.

I left out in my previous post that my dad said the trolling motor seems to be losing power. I noticed it last year already.

I like the iPilot idea but I think I'd still like to have the foot control.

A/S, if your looking to upgrade you can get the i-pilot on a minnkota power drive v-2 in 45,55,70lb thrust i believe with 2 or 3 three shaft lenghts, you can also just get the i-pilot system and put it on an existing v-2 if you already have one.

i just put a terrrova 80lb i-pilot on my boat this year, and so far love it,

and you still get a foot pedal to use,(i havent even plugged mine in yet), but most of the i-pilot features are controlled with the remote. get the i-pilot, the advanced gps controlled auto-pilot along with cruise control, spot lock, track-back/record a track,are/were worth it to me,although last years terrova with auto-pilot,co-pilot and US2 was more expensive than this years i-pilot, go figure. feel free to ask any more questions you may have, minnkotas web site has plenty of info as well,

good luck with your decision,

mike

I had checked their HSOforum but I wanted some real opinions as well.

From what I read it sounded like the iPilot is the way to go.

Cabelas would have to order me a Terrova so I'm going to check a couple of stores today and see if I can find one. Otherwise maybe I'll get a Power Drive today.

Still looking for more opinions if anyone has them.

Thanks guys.

Well ended up not getting the iPilot.

Looking at the setup I think I want one with the built in transducer and of course my graph isn't compatible with the sonar in the Terrova. I'll get something similar to an iPilot after I upgrade the fish locator.

Thanks for the input.
