In the market for a camcorder. Looking to spend under $300.00 if possible. Don't know what features to look for in a camcorder. I have an older vhs camcorder and I can't find the tapes/battery for it. I like the idea of the camcorder also having the capability to snap a photo when I looked at some. I had no clue what I was looking at when I was shopping for one. Does a flash camcorder have a lesser quality picture versus one with a hard drive? Any advice would be helpful. I need to purchase one like this weekend.

I am not an expert, but thought my experience might help you out. I have a Sony DCR-SR100 which is an older 30GB hard drive camcorder. I like the videos it takes, the battery life is good, you get a lot of video time. The still pictures aren't so good (lots of red eye and a little grainy). I have seem them on hsolist for around $400.

I do like how easy and fast it is to save the videos to my computer, and then to make DVD from them. It beats having to transfer from tape at 1-1 speed.

Good luck.
