Lowrance 3500c Powers Up On Its Own

LooseMoose

Question

I've owned this unit for sometime (4-5yrs?). Last year it began powering up on its own and this year the same thing is happening. The last time was in the middle of the night.....I woke up to the unit alarm going nuts. At first i thought it was my smoke detector and my house was on fire! Anyways, if I try to power down using the power button, it just comes right back on. The screen will be flashing on and off with many different errors, etc., I need to un-plug the power cable to shut it down. It does still operate correctly while on the water though.

Any ideas, anybody experience the same? I have sent a note to Lowrance explaining the symptoms, but yet to hear back.

Thanks for any help, LooseMoose

These units were known for doing this including mine which does it sporadically. It is a pretty widespread problem but the easiest cure is to just unplug the unit when you are done for the day.

If you have your electronics hooked up under your master power switch, that makes it even easier.

I remember a few years ago when guys were first complaining about it, they tried lowrance service but didn't get too far. They are a good unit other than this problem. I tried some updates but it still happened.

Its the key either sticking under the case or there is some separation of the key pad. check to make sure your power key isn't stuck under the face.... you can send it in for a fee to get fixed or you can just run the cord through a switch.....

Thanks all for the information. I don't believe the button is sticking as it works just fine while powering up and down during normal use. This issue seems to take several hours and some times days before it appears. From some research and from another reply here, it appears to be a known issue with some units. I guess I'll have to live with disconnecting the power connection.

P.S. My request to Lowrance support for answers, has yet to be re-plied too? I realize its out of warranty and I don't expect a free fix, but a reply would be nice as I've been a Lowrance customer for many years.
