riverview
I have a 96 20 ft lund alaskan with a 75 honda 4 stroke tiller. no live well 16 gallon gas tank on the left side of the boat storage on the right no live well so not much weight up front. I need a trolling motor and was thinking a elect tiller would be nice.I have never had a bow mount ( not much to choose to from I figure i need at least a 80 lb that leaves minkota. a vantage is over a grand. I found a 2 horse honda tiller for 900.00 it only weighs 27 lbs anybody if a 2 horse would push my 20ft alaskan. what are the advantages of a bow mount over a tiller? or should i put a trolling plate on and get the 2 horse honda? gritsnham
It depends on the kinda fish you want to do and where you like to fish in your boat. If you really wanted a 55lb thrust would work just not as much power and will be even less effective in rivers. You can also get them alot cheaper factory reconditioned or buying used somewhere. If you plan on trolling cranks and such alot then having that tiller is nice but I could see it getting old if your jigging and rigging or if you are casting. My personal vote is towards a bow mount but I like to fish and cast off the front deck most of the time when im fishing. The two stroke is going to get noisy so decide if you want to hear that all the time when your fishing or if investing in a quite electric would be better.Decide what part of your boat you like to fish out of more and go from there
