Clear Lake IA

Recommended Posts

So I stopped by the Spirit Lake fish hatchery this weekend and got to see some of the big girls in the tanks. Needless to say I have the itch to get out. I was told that you can fish muskies in clear lake Iowa right now. Does anyone know if this is true? I live about an hour and a half away and just was curious if it would be worth the trip this time of year. Also any info on the lake structure would be appreciated as well.

Been to Clear lake a few times,,,you might want to consider doing the very fun casual Muskie tournament on I think April 25th,,,very small entry fee and its a one day event with a gettogether afterwards with prizes and they feed you very well,,,weve done this a couple of times and its very fun,,,,you can buy a 1 day license in IA,,,The lake is very bland has far has structure just pretty much a round shallow basin,,but there have been some good fish caught,,,and its musky fishing in April!!

I've also fished the tourney Brad's speaking of and can vouch for the event and great food after. I fish Clear pretty regularly as my parents live a few miles north of the IA border -- I fished it the day after Easter. We moved one mid-40 inch fish in about 4 FOW, no hookups. Water temps were in the mid-50s. Clear is a relatively close option when surrounding waters are still closed.
