carp flies.

So what are some good Dry Fly patterns for Carp? I tried a piece of popcorn on a fly hook but they just ignored it. They went crazy over bread on the surface, but it is too brittle to cast with a flyrod. I'm thinking of making my own out of some foam if I can find the right stuff to look like a hunk of bread.

What works for topwater carp? I've seen them feed just as actively on the surface then on the bottom espically on hot, windless calm days. I've been thinking of running more stuff with the plain hook rig like mini Marshmellows or puffcorn, but they seem to pick a lot of other things off the surface too...

any larger surface flies you would use for trout, will work for carp. hoppers, beetles, adult stonefly, even damsel fly patterns.

but know this, its completely hit and miss when fishing for carp feeding topwater.

cast out your fly, and keep it in one area as long as possible, to allow

time for the carp to find it

and another thing, ALWAYS cast past the fish and bring the fly to them! never cast directly into them. carp that feed topwater are usually very spooky, and that little splash will likely send them packing

i like "junk" dry flies. the ones that look like flotsam and jetsam. carp eat that stuff all the time

they also key on the cottonwood seeds in june - use some white marabou to make one of those, they can be killer

Went out the other day for bass and pike and got blown off all my good spots. I noticed the only place on the lake not being pummeled by the wind was a bit of a sand flat with...CARP!

Ended up landing 5 with my 6wt on big #10 nymphs. Threw my own b*stardized version of the Montana Carrot DEADhead described using what I had on hand. I have to say that thing worked like a charm. Great fly.

I turned a terrible day of getting blown around and hitting myself with giant 2/0 streamers into a great hour of sight fishing carp. I've never caught them before and all I can say is, I getting back out tonight!
