Okay, so I have been hiting the open water already and have a few things to check before you try and hit the water.

Motor and batteries in good condition

New fuel and the correct mixture used, oil resivoir full

Needed boat lisc., endorsements in place

 Plug in the boat(no, I didn't forget)

Personal floatation devices in good shape and will pass an inspection

Trailer lights, tires greased and all in working condition and trailer lisc. valid

 Extinguisher/safety devices(flares, flag, radio, sea anchor)all current

Trolling motor connections work, motor works

 Livewell, bilge, blowers work

Anchors and anchor lines in place connections and lines in working shape

Tackle in order, rods and reels respooled and ready to rock

Spare fuses/bulbs for trailer and truck on hand

These are just a few things that i check each preseason prior to dropping the boat in or hooking up to drag the boat to the landing the first time. One sidenote, if you spool line yourself or have it spooled at a big box retailer(especially spinning reels) make sure you run the line out behind the boat and reel it back onto the spool to save yourself some birdsnest headaches and lost fishing time. Anyone else care to add to the list? Hope you all have a safe and productive open water season. Remember prepeare your boat to launch prior to getting to the landing so you don't hold up anyone else that is waiting. Load gear and be ready to drop in and get out of the way so others can put in or take out without waiting for you. This always keeps tensions at the landing lower during busy times. Be willing to help others that may need assistance. Good luck on the water, tightlines!
