After acquiring a new stock and barrel it was time to have it all put back together for my (almost) new long range league rifle and big gopher getter.

As mentioned in an earlier article I sold my HS precision stock and Dasher chambered Lilja barrel to my bro so that I could purchase a McMillan benchrest stock and put on a new Krieger barrel to be chambered in the Dasher also. Other than the action being stainless steel, as opposed to blued, it used to look just like my bro's in the earlier article.

The gun turned out very nice. I had the action bedded professionally as well as the chamber job. I am currently working on the fireforming process to get some brass ready for load development. Here is a pic of the process of taking a new 6br case on the far left and necking it up to .257 (second from left) and then necking it back to 6mm half way down the neck (you should see a hump in the pic), 3rd from the left is a chambered and fired round (see the rounded shoulders and how the walls of the case got longer and the neck shorter, also the shoulder angle change), far right pic is after the second firing with an actual bullet which you can see sharpens up the shoulders and finishes to 100 % the fireforming process.

I use the false shoulder method of fireforming by way of pistol powder, corn meal and TP. You can see the white TP in the end of the case to hold the corn meal and powder in place. Then take it outside and fire away.

It saves on barrel life, bullets, powder, and works very good in getting the cases to approx. 95% formed which is good enough to then take and shoot with bullets on paper or prairie dogs effectively and at a might good distance very accurately.

Just love the smell of gunpowder in the morning. wink

Happy Easter everyone!

Shoot straight,

WG

Thanks for sharing WG. Are you using Unique for your 1st fire form? I have been to the EL range twice trying to get my 204 to shoot with less than stellar results. Keep us posted on how the Dasher is shooting. Oops, just re-read your post. You are using pistol powder. Sorry.....

Waska:

Hope to get to the range later this week. As you know you can also fire-form with a load and shoot method. I did that on the last "gun" and it worked Ok for awhile then I began to have troubles so decided to go to the false shoulder method with this gun. Will see how that goes but initial trials show great promise.

Good luck with the .204

I have been there a few times. Still need some work at 300 and 600 b4 league starts!!! I was hoping to shoot after cleanup tomorrow but it sounds like it will be windy. Grrr........... Found a problem with my Zeiss on the 204. In order to eliminate all the parralax the target is blurry.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
