I am starting to look for a new duck boat. I want to hunt primarily with one other person but sometimes will have three people total including my daughter. I currently have a 1436 and that is not cutting it anymore when I want to hunt with three people.

I am looking at getting a riveted 1648 modified-V with the open floor plan or maybe a welded 1648 modified-V. I would like to find a used 27HP mud motor to match the boat or a complete setup, with out going new with everything.

My other option is I did find a Beavertail boat with a 27HP motor ready to go but it is a little more than I want to spend. Has anyone hunted out of one of these and are they worth the money compared to a modified-V jon boat. It is hard to justify the money when I primarily hunt ducks only in October and then deer hunt in November.

I have a buddy that hunts ouy of an 18'beavertail rig with a 35hp motor and he loves It,I have only been In It a couple times, but the boat Itself Is built to take some serious punishment..

I have owned surface drives for 5 years and played the boat game.If you are thinking of a mudder long or short shaft go with a boat hull designed for It.I finally broke down and bought a phowler,What a difference!!I never though that a hull could make that much of a difference but It does...
