Guest
Has anyone been fishing up at Lake Athabasca in Canada recently?Am wondering if the pics and stories of big fish are to good to be true?
doc
We fished there last year and caught 10 lakers over 30lbs and 3 over 40! The pike fishing is also unbelivable. The storys are all true from what I experienced.
DickUrban
Six of us were there the third week of June. The sun never dipped below the horizon while we were there and it would have been possible to fish 24 hours each day. We actually fished 8-9 hours each day and caught hundreds of big lakers and pike as well as some arctic grayling. Several lakers were in the 32-33 pound class. Largest pike was 49" and we caught at least 25 pike per day over 40". The scenery isn't much (scrub and sand) but the fish really are fantastic. One of our group caught a 44" pike on a fly rod that required 30 minutes to bring to the boat. If you are willing to pay what it costs to get there, do it. You will have some great photos and memories. It does tend to raise your expectations to unreasonable levels but is a truly unusual experience.
