Fish&Fowl
I just bought a new used boat with a 150 Yamaha 4-stroke. I have a few things I'm looking for advice on:What do you guys running the same motor use for lower-unit grease?Any recommendations for what brand and pitch for a stainless steel prop?I was told to use Yamaha Ring Free (1 oz. per 10 gal. of gas). Anyone else use this product? Thanks for any info!
MuskieJunkie
AmsoilThe only recomendation I would have for the prop is to find a shop that lets you test and exchange them. The guy I bought my boat from said it took him 7 tries to find the right one. Also Solderblooms sharpens and polishes them for a very resonable price.Yes I do with every tank but I'm going to switch to Sea Foam just becuase that's what I use for everything else in my garage and it's easier to find (unless someone here has a better product). fishorgolf
I run the same motor and I now have a high 5 . I run a 20" fiberglass and it "JUMPS" out of the water. yes I run higher RPM )more fuel) but the performance is more that worth it for me. I am not a speed guy I like to jump out of the water and plane at 20 mph.
marine_man
With respect to the stainless prop, I think you need to know where you're at now performance wise (RPM's, Speed, Current Pitch Prop and performance) before I'd start looking for stainless.marine_man
eyewarrior
Yamalub.I found that a 19 pitch Yamaha Reliance prop worked best with my 150 on a 620T Ranger. I had a 21 pitch Stainless and with 3 guys took forever to get on plane, now it comes right up. I still can't get quite 6000RPM top end but its close. Like the others said might take a little experimentation but this info might cut your search a little. Premium gas seems to run the best but 87 octane will do an adequate job. I have never added any additives.
MuskieJunkie
Any suggestions on a shop that lets you exchange props? Sorry no, fortunetly (sp) for me I bought my boat used and the guy before me put the prop on it. I'm sure someone on here will chime in with suggestions or you could start a new thread. Fish&Fowl
Thanks for the info guys! I guess I should have been more specific...are you running synthetic in your lower unit or something like 80-90?
