Our lawn has been in rough shape for years, so I've decided to really do something about it this year. I've done a lot of research and have planned the entire year out, so hopefully we'll get some positive results. I do have a couple questions for those with experience.

- My first step is going to be to sweep/vacuum the entire lawn. This should help aerate as well as de-thatch it. I'm going to rent a lawn sweeper and was wondering if anyone had any advice or tidbits of knowledge on how to do it properly. If you sweep, is it necessary to vacuum as well? I'm thinking not, but want to know what you have done.

- I also want to get a timer for the water hose so I get the proper amount of watering. Anyone ever used one? What make/model would you recommend, and where can I go to get one?

All for now, but I'm sure I'll tap into the great resources here as the year goes on.
