I've got a Curado and love it, may be adding another this year, although I use mine for throwing cranks not for jigging live bait. Avids are great rods too. If you like the feel of your setup it should be great for what you want to do.

Personally I don't like jigging with fireline or power pro unless I'm in current or water over 30 feet deep ---- which maybe fits your situation given the size of the weights you're talking about.

For line counter reels, I like SeaLines all the way!

I also like the Diawa Sealines, have 2 SG27LCA's on Mr. Walleye telescoping 8' medium actoin rods. Really like the setup.

Can't say much about rods though I usually just start gradding rods that are ML or M until I find one that feals right. Well balanced with the real and has the rod action that feals right to me. Not really parcial to any one brand I'll send whatever amount on the one that I pick out.

As far as the Power Pro I've never used it (I'm a Fireline guy) but I do like the stronger lines with less diameter. Especially for bottom bouncing, the line will cut thru the water faster so you can go with a little less weight and still stay fairly vertical, less line out. Trolling as well you don't have to run as far back to get your lures to dig down deep. You might even go a little bigger test weight and keep your diameter around 6lb incase there are pike or large bass present... so you don't have a line snap. More versital, just a thought. 6lb will still cut thruogh the water and won't mess with the action of your lures. Heard guys say good things about Power Pro I've just had no reason to switch.

After researching 100's of threads I decided to return Curado and AVC 68MXF rod and picked up a Stradic CI4 spinning reel with AVS 68MXF rod I have fished spinning reels for years so thought I would be more comfortable with this set-up,I spooled it with Suffix Floro wanted to try something new, still haven't given up in purchasing a baitcaster for bottom bouncing in the future ,also bought Okuma Magda MA20 DLX L/C with Compre CPC-TR83MB rod spooled with power pro for trolling I do fish in river current a lot and always use bow mount when jigging or bottom bouncing.

That is a great rod but for bottom bouncing the XF action isn't needed. Most bottom bouncing rods are built on a medium or moderate action, much like a crank bait rod. Dragging a 2 oz weight around is not a finese tactic so no need to use a finese rod. Not to say that it won't work, it will, but you will run the risk of getting into the backbone of the rod to quick with that much weight.

I am going to use the spinning rig just for jigging, but still want to try a baitcaster and with proper rod for bottom bouncing ,I do fish a lot of current in depths 10-30 ft. plus I am up in Minaki for the summer on the Winnipeg river and surrounding lakes,we have to annual walleye tournaments Gary Roach classic in Aug. and one in June usually 40-50 boats thinking of trying my luck.

Minaki,

I cannot pm you , so im posting here.

Heading up for the last week in October to Minaki fishing. I am wondering if year in and year out you are finding the biggest and or most of your fish near the river current?

I dont think the current will be that heavy at that time, but am just wondering about your experiences.

Thanks

Lots of good options for trolling rods depending on if your pulling boards or long lining. I like 7'10' to 9' rods for both and prefer telescoping. I like Diawa Sealine line counters.

Limit Creek has a real nice 8'6" telescoping that will do double duty of leadcore and boards and even long lining of course.

Cabelas, Gary Roach Mr. Walleye, gander, Shimano, Diawa all make some good trolling rods. That line should be fine but I prefer mono for inline boards and Power Pro for long lining.
