Night walleyes - Mille Lacs

It's good all year, just change your location to match the time of year.

You can fish at night on opening weekend, but then a night ban goes into effect until early June sometime (I don't know the exact date but it is well published). You can't be on the water with fishing equipment after 10:00 pm during the night ban.

I just checked the regs. Night fishing is banned May 17 thru June 14 for 2010. So the last part of June is a good time to be out there? My understanding is you want to be on top of the humps in 6 to 12 feet? Are crawlers or leeches the best??

Even during the night ban you can fish "at night", you just need to pack up and head out around 9:30-9:45 or so, to make sure you're off the water by 10:00.

The shallow rocky humps are good early in the year, even during the day if there's wind blowing on them. After the night ban ends there will still be fish on the shallow rocks close to shore, but I think you'll find better numbers of fish out on the mid-lake structure.

Why is there a ban on night fishing there?

It's done to protect the fish and control the harvest --- it's a popular lake that receives a TON of fishing pressure, and typically has a really good bite going early in the season.
