croixflats
Most of the season with my yamaha 150 was down last year and finally was resolved by replacing the stator. Long story why it took so long.Well after 6 trips out at the end of the season the motor started acting up the same way before the stator was replaced. This leads me to believe its the stator again. The stator was replaced by a used one to save on cost. What would cause a stator to go bad. I know being used this might be why but I'm looking at all scenario's to cover the bases.I've heard jump starting can make a stator fail, didn't do this, can an automatic onboard charger do the same damage or does the ignition have to be on. Any other thoughts that could cause a stator go bad. At $400 for a stator its risky to try a new one if something maybe blowing out the stator. I have not told the mechanic about this yet after all the work he put into it last year so I thought I would break it to him later this year. I know he will stand behind his work. He didn't even charge me for labor he felt so bad at how long it took him.Just trying to be prepared any help be greatly appreciated. marine_man
Tough to say on a Yamaha what would cause a Stator to go bad... Johnson / Evinrude older motors were notorious for the Stator going bad, especially when the battery cables were reversed.. but yamaha's aren't really known for stator issues.marine_man
croixflats
This is a stumper. The mechanic had 3 other mechanics fro different shops look at her last year and they couldnt figure it out Yamaha said they had no clue and the best they could come up was start replacing parts. As I'm sure you know that electrical stuff under there is not cheap. Thanks for the input.
