RBuker
I saw two other threads on here today where people commented on coons responding to their calls. A friend and I were out on Friday night and made six stands. On two of those, we had 'coons coming hard and fast. I've seen this behavior in Texas but never in Minnesota and I've been at this for a lot of years. Anyone have any ideas? By the way, Friday night was a fantastic night. I talked to several people around the state and it seems like nearly everyone had good luck. Out of our six stands, we called in 4 fox and two coons. Here's one of the foxes. johnsd16
Breeding season is getting ready to crank up. Like late october for bucks, lots of boar coon out and about looking for ladies, and an easy meal probably. Lots of sounds sound like coons scrapping, probably what's getting them in. Were they male coon? Suppose you'd only know if you took them. Strange that you've seen it this year and never before though. Nice fox! Grayfox
Looks like your 17 Rem did a perfect job on that fox Randy. I've had coon bust in hard up here but only with coon distress sounds. I was thinking of starting my calling sequences with the coon distress but I was thinking it would have to be warmer when they're more active. Maybe not. RBuker
Yup, I've had 'coons respond just like this when I was specifically targeting them and using 'coon sounds. Kit distress and sows fighting work great. But, in this case, we were just using regular distress sounds from a crit'r call standard. But, with responses like that I'm thinking of maybe doing some targeting them!
