First Red Fox

Recommended Posts

A buddy from work asked me if I wanted to go fishing Friday so I took the day off and decided to try a couple spots last night for fox before we headed out in the morning.

1st and 2nd sets were dry.

On the way to another spot I saw a Red Fox cruise through a yard on the edge of town. I turned around and headed back a 1/2 mile to a property I can hunt and set out to a tree line. I set the caller 30 yards upwind and started it up and immediately had two sets of coyotes start howling. I let it play a minute or two then shut it off. I was watching the East/West tree line I was in and almost missed her coming across the field up wind of the caller. I turned on my light when it was straight North of me and then turned the caller back on low and then the eyes started bouncing in. Called her to 40 yards and let fly. She got back up after the first shot so I hit her agian. Not to pleased with my shooting tonight. Might have to put the modified choke back in. Mitch and I will be heading out tonight to try for a few fox and hopefully we'll have some luck and he will get on the board. We'll be trying all new spots. Here's a couple pics of my first Red Fox.

Good Work!

What round are you using?

Just for example, at night, I use Remington Wingmaster HD 3" BB loads. It's a killer. You need a good choke though....I'd stay away from the modified personally. I shoot a aftermarket choke constricted to .670. That's basically a super-full choke. Kick's makes good chokes and if you order right from the factory, test it on paper, and don't like it, you can exchange it for something that works for you....good service IMO.

Do some paper testing on your loads and chokes and you'll see a wide variation. Look for about 12-20 pellets in an 8" circle at 40 yards!
