2001 toyota 4.7 liter hard start

Recommended Posts

My wife has a 2001 sequoia just over 100k, and I have noticed twice in the last couple of weeks when the truck is warm it takes a while to start and misses and studders until it then starts and runs fine. Now it does not do this when it just gets shut off, it has to sit for an hour or so. I am thinking vapor lock?

Thanks

Abe

It should have said

"remove the vacuum line and let it soak (let the car sit with the engine hot and not running) after you shut it off"

There is only one vacuum line attached to the fuel rail. There will be two fuel lines which will be much bigger in diameter. The regulator should be on the end of the rail and I think its on the passenger side near the fire wall.

Thanks airjer- I did see something on the passenger side on top of the fuel rail, but it was close to the middle of the rail, it had a small vacuum hose that went to the air intake, it was about 1/4" i.d., as well as a larger hose that went around the back of the motor. sound about right?

Wife is at work now, so I will check tomorrow.

Thanks

Abe- I'd clean your throttle body and MAF sensor for starters. Have you done the recommended 90k maintenance? Timing belt needs to be done around there as well. Could be a bad plug. Make sure the plugs are what the factory service manual calls for- NGK and Denso plugs ONLY. The 4.7 is a solid engine when properly maintained.
