I sold my old Tecumseh Strikemaster Lazermag and bought the new SOLO lazermag. Bad mistake. First time out the re-coil screws up. Strikemaster has a video on how to remove the re-coil and fix the problem with WD40.Seems to be a very common problem. I repair as directed. Go fishing and will not start. Pull,Pull,Pull. Finally it starts but the re-coil rope does not go all the way back in. I better drill a hole while the auger is running. Wow this really drills a hole fast. I let off the throttle and the engine will not go back to idle. It is stuck at about half throttle. I depress and release the throttle lever , but it stays stuck. I shut off the engine at the switch. Fishing friend removes the re-coil and sees that the spring came off. He comments " boy, there is nothing heavy duty in this re-coil. He fixes the re-coil and we really want to fish and its tough for two guys to fish out of one hole. So we try to get the SOLO started again. It will not start . Thought engine still warm so did not choke ,or prime bulb. It will not start. I decide to choke and prime the bulb. I now see that there is no fuel in the line to the carb. I pump the bulb many times, but no gas in the line. Maybe carb jet plugged? All I know is my old Tecumseh was very reliable, and I wish i had it back.
Dang, new content and now answers.
First, congrats on the new boat!
My recommendation is to get the most thrust you can in 24V, assuming a boat that size isn’t running 36V. 80 might be tops? I’m partial to MinnKota.
How do you plan to use the trolling motor is an important question too.
All weather or just nice weather?
Casting a lot or bait dragging?
Bobber or panfish fishing?
Spot lock? Networked with depth finders? What brand of depth finders?
We have bought a new boat, which we will be picking up this spring. It is an Alumacraft Competitor 165 sport with a 90 horse Yamaha
motor. I will be buying and installing a trolling motor, wondering if I can get some recommendations on what pound thrust I will
want for this boat? Also, I will be selling my old boat, is there a good way to determine the value on an older boat ( mid-80's with a 75 horse 2-stroke
Mariner motor) I will appreciate any help with these questions.
I went ahead and watched some of the MLF coverage. Wheeler didn’t make the cut but the bigger story was the Poche/Avera fallout.
Kinda funny listening to both sides of the story and putting together the scenario, reading between the lines.
