guide placement

Recommended Posts

would that be loading the rod with some pressure to test the curve? making sure there is no sharpbends in the line? me not big word friendly! lol

if thats what you mean i tried that but it just seems as if the space betwen the reel and stripper guide are way to far apart and my guides are super close to the end of the blank and eachother i just cant seem to figure this blank out!

Yep... you are on the right track. Try spacing the stripper guide about 21-23" from the reel spool on a spin rod, 19-21" on a casting rod. Depending on the action of the tip section of the rod, it well could be that the guides are fairly close together at the tip. Let the blank tell you what it wants, not some chart developed by who know who.

You do not want line to "bunch" in front of the stripper guide. May have to move it up or down the blank to make it all work. Experiment, you will find the sweet spot. Guaranteed!

When I do an ice rod I just want to be sure the line follows the curve of the blank when loaded without too sharp of bend in the line. Most ice rods I have done have 4 guides plus the tip top.

Tape the guides on, run the line through the guides and give a fair load and look at how the line runs through. Just watch where the line runs through the guides and try to keep the angles soft and not too sharp.
