mainbutter
So I'm in the market for a new spinning rod, something a little heavier for throwing some bigger than average bass and pike lures, but certainly not anywhere near big musky lure size and weight.I was looking at St. Croix's HSOforum and their premier spinning rod section has their med. heavy rods lure weight suggestion at 3/8-3/4 oz. and their heavy rods at 1/2-1 1/2 oz.Is it just me or is this seriously underrated? I've thrown mag dawgs on a heavy gander mtn rod, and I'm pretty sure those are 8 oz, and I thought that the rod power to lure weight was just right.I'm looking for something to throw 1-3oz lures without feeling like a pool cue. I don't actually need an xheavy rod for that do I???
Deitz Dittrich
The ratings are just there as a suggestion. Its the rod manus "Ideal" situation. You as an angler can choose to throw whatever you want with it. Personally If I am going to throw something that big, I will do it with baitcasting. The one thing you do have to worry about is if you overload the rod too much you risk breaking it.
