PikeFerret
I have a CVA Kodiak Magnum and just got a new Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40 scope. I do not have it mounted yet, but I can already tell I'm going to have clearance issues with the rear sight and getting my thumb in to pull the hammer back. I bought the Durasight medium scope mounts. My thought was to go with a Warne mount and high or extra high scope mounts, but I don't know if that will solve the rear sight issue. I would like to leave it on if possible and I do not want the see-thru mounts. Anybody have some advice or same problem?
SmilinBob
There are seemingly endless choices in ring heights that will still look good, you should be able to get a close measurement, they are measured from centerline of the ring bore, most come in short, med., tall and extra tall, but if those still seem short look into AR styles, they can get way up there. I'm guessing a weaver style tall, or ex tall should work for your gun. As far as hammer clearance, the best and most popular option is a spur extension that comes off the side, they are readily available and can be put on for either left or right hand shooting,if you can't find one for that model, a good gunsmith can make one pretty easily.
