Took the plunge

Just received in the mail my first DSLR -- purchased the Canon T1i with the 18-55mm lens and the 55/250mm lens.

It's been so much fun to play with, I have a hard time putting it down -- I'm constantly taking pictures of the kids, using different angles, lighting, modes (creative and basic), etc.

One thing I quickly realized is how little I know about this unit and how much it can do -- a little overwhelming, actually. Guess I just need to learn as I go. A friend of mine has the same body and is quite the enthusiast -- he's agreed to take me out sometime and teach me enough to be dangerous..

I'll post some random pics in the next couple of days --

Advice, suggestions, general info is very welcome on taking quality pictures. My areas of interest are my kids, one of which is in the early years of hockey. Landscapes/outdoor images would be another area of interest, tho admittedly, I have no experience in this.

Thanks everyone!

One bit of advice, don't give up if your first shots don't look as great as you'd like, or even as good as what you're used to getting from a point and shoot. There is a pretty good learning curve to a DSLR, they can take amazing photos but you have to learn how to make the camera do it which takes most of us a fair amount of time.

Great advice John --- all I can say so far is..... "Ain't that the truth!"
