Lee county Iowa ice fishing reports

Recommended Posts

Hey, out there, I know there's lee county ice fishermen because i've fished with you. To name a few; Full, The mayor, lennie, Dan,and Spork. If you have'nt guessed by now it's T.G aka Hawk-i. If you have any info on pollmiller please post it. I'm going to test heron bend for ice tomorrow and will post it if anyones interested. I for sure caught some nice crappie last year out there.I don't feel theres any need to keep a good fishing spot a secret, as i believe the more it,s fished, the better it gets. Happy New Year.

p.s. Donnie, will see you in PCB in Feb.

went to heron bend approx. 11a.m.. someone had taken a couple steps out on the ice, but had'nt drilled. I went out about twenty feet and found 3" of ice, so it looks like hardwater fishing is on. I did'nt do any fishing, but a guy showed up as I was putting my auger away.He was going to fish so I told him I would stick around until he got his holes dug just in case. He went out about 75',dug two holes and said he had 3". I might go tomorrow.

Went to heron bend sunday. When I got there no one else was around. Dug about six holes in the first hour and a half with no luck, not even a bite. soon two more cars pulled in and started fishing I stayed another hour with out even a bite. As I left I checkd on the other two. They were having the same luck as me, no bites. however the one guy said he caught plenty of nice gills during the summer out of his two man, so I know they're in there. After 50+ years of ice fishing you'd think I would be able to find them in little 2-2.5 acre impoundment'but I reckon not. Anyway it was good to get out.

I think the cold front and accompanying high air pressure has shut the small-water bite down. One acre ponds I could find plenty of fish on a week ago went dead overnight when the cold front settled in.

Finally made it to Polmiller yesterday,Tue. There was about 12' of ice and one other fisherman. I dug two holes and stayed on them for three hours. Ended up with 13 fish, none of which I would care to write home about. Honey-dos today then maybe Polmiller tomorrow. Would like to hit Heron bend once more as I am confused at what's going on there. Then off to PCB,Fl. for some "soft" water fishing.
