Jiffy model 30 auger Compression?

DrRodey

Question

Just wondering if anyone knows how much compression these engines are supposed to have. Mine only has 15lbs in her right now which I though was way to low but I've talked to six people about it and am getting an exact 50-50 responce as to if it's suffecient or not.

Just did my auger compression last week and it showed 70psi dry and 75 with oil added. Tecumseh tc300 engine. I do not think 15 lbs is nearly enough for your engine. Did a partner 700 saw this summer and it was 75 dry and 120 with oil so that is getting new rings this winter. Try dry and then with oil in cylinder. Significant increase in compression will tell you that it needs new rings etc.

15 PSI is way too low for any gas engine (2 or 4 stroke) to run. Either your piston/cylinder is damaged, or your gauge is defective. Below 90 psi is on the bottom end of performing with much efficiency or easy starting.
