painting fiberglass topper..

I picked up a new (from the junk yard :)) topper for my ranger. it's fiberglass. I need to paint it to match the truck, what is the best way to go about this?? can I just scratch it up and paint, or should I prime it? what kind of paint do I want to use?? I'm not looking to spend a fortune doing this, want to get by on the cheap, the topper is only on for the ice fishing season. thanks!!
