Read an interesting article today in the Rapid City Journal. Seems there were 2 encounters with lions in the Pine Ridge area, which I think, is in the Chadron area. In one case a hunter was tracking a wounded deer which he found to have been attacked by a lion. He killed the deer and the cat ran off. In the other case a hunter killed a deer and went back to get his gutting gear and when he returned a cat was gnawin on it.

There have been a large number of confirmed sightings in our area as well. We had one in the city a few years ago, perched in a tree near an elementary school.

Certainly dangerous, but really they are amazing animals. I have seen one fairly close out by Burwell about 10 years ago. That was impressive to say the least.

Burwell??? Boy oh boy did that word bring back some memories. I have a dear ol bud that was born and raised in Ord just down the road and know of a animal vet that brings some great performance horses up to our winter stock show in Rapid City, SD. I've been to that Ord several times. I kinda like that sand hill country.

That is truly God's country, at least within the State of Nebraska. Everyone waves with all five fingers. People talk to you at gas stations/restaurants like they've known you your entire life. Clean air, clean living. The local taverns/eateries serve bull fries. Heaven? Oh yeah. grin
