Roofing Help?

Recommended Posts

I am considering refoofing and heard I could save money if I do it before it gets too cold cause it is a slow time of year.

Questions I have:

(1) What would be a reasonable per square cost to tear off, reshingle, new vents, minor repairs, etc? Plan on 30 yr architectural style single, ~28-30 squares, simple straight rambler roof that is not steep.

(2) I talked to one roofer that seemed reputable and not pushy, that like IKO - but I hear they have a class action suit. Are all the IKO shingles bad products, or are their just certain ones to avoid? Other alternates I am considering are Certainteed Landmark or GAF Timberline.

(3) Once winter hits, is it not advised to reroof and wait till spring?

(4) Is it typical that I could expect to save money doing it now, vs waiting till spring?

Thanks for your help!

Found out a little more about the IKO shingle issues. It is my understanding that the issues were only with their Organic singles that they no longer make. The fiberglass (30 yr arch) shingle are suppose to be very good from what I was told.

Everyone had issues with their organic shingles and transitioning into laminate-fiberglass.

All 3 of those shingles are quality products. Id go with what the contractor is comfortable using.. i'd use landmarks.

I cant give you a dollar amount per square, it varies from area to area.

I like Certainteed products, Landmarks and Timberline are just about the same thing and close to the same price per Sq. Get a few estimates and check their backgrounds out it will save you a few headaches. You should be able to get a good price but watch the low ball estimates.
