T/C Maxi Hunter bullets

Recommended Posts

Maxi hunter were around long before inlines I shoot them out of 1/48 barrel in TC New Englander. I think they are designed for slower twist barrels. Back in the early 80's you had 1/60 patched ball or 1/48 for maxi balls/maxi hunter bufaaloe bullets etc.

What caliber do you want to shoot the maxis out of? The TC guns from the early 70's were rifled at 1/48 as a compromise to shoot either the patched round ball or the maxi. Flagup, if I were you, I would try a few and see how they group. All my blackpowder guns are rifled at 1/60 or slower just for round ball. There aren't many of us old relics left. As for the caliber question, the bigger the bore, the slower the twist. Also, the more powder(more velocity) the slower the twist. I have an old .54 Hawken that I built way back when that shoots a hunting load of 120 grains of FFg and the rifling twist is 1/72.Your 1/28 twist might stablize the Maxi, but you might have to drop you powder charge a bit, especially if it's a.50 cal.
