landscaper
Well i put the boat away for the winter. My boat benches where faded and discolored since it is about 15 years old. I unscrewed the benches (2 of them plus little V at front) and i was wondering how i should refinish them?? They are 5/8" veneer plywood. What has everyone done? i sanded them a little and that took some of the "grey" out of them but now what??thanks guys! Phred52
landscaper, MANY years ago I took the benches out of my S-14 Lund and ended up replacing them. At that time, I just used an A-C plywood, cut and fitted them, soaked them with stain and finished them off with a couple coats of exterior polyurethane. Held up well, though after all the work, I find out that the factory benches had like a fiberglass resin that penetrated the wood. It strengthened and protected the benches. BUT...as I said, that was years ago, that was in '74 and I'd already owned the boat from new, for 9 years. I hope this helps. something you might try would be a fiberglass cleaner/ polish (Like for the shower)That may clean up and get a glaze on those benches again.
