sparetime
I put this same post in BWCA/Duluth/Ely forum as well. I am looking for a place to stay north of Duluth for next weekend. I want to do some grouse hunting in the superior national forest. I have checked the usual locations from Duluth and along the north shore, and found no place to stay within my budget. Any out of the way places that you can suggest? Just for two people and a dog. Nothing fancy required or desired. I would prefer to stay on the south side of the SNF, but would venture further north if necessary. The weather forcast seems to discourage camping for me, but maybe thats my only opition at this time
IceAge@work
Might try Whispering Pines in Illgen City. Its located at the intersection of Highway 61 & Highway 1 about six miles from Finland. Very good access to SNF and other state forest properties. I've stayed there a few times and find the cost reasonable compared to the higher end North Shore accomodations. Grouse hunting in the area is not half bad eitherhttp://www.whisperingpinesmotel.com/
