1999 Jeep Cherokee heat, or lack there of

Recommended Posts

Dual climate control. When I turn the passenger side from hi to lo I can hear a door moving to control the air mixture. Temp of the air also changes. When I do the drivers side there is no sound at all and it is, of course, stuck on cold. Any hints where to start... looks like a real mess to try to do anything with! Can I get to the mixer door and just stick it on hot? Thanks././Jimbo

I think the driver side blend door actuator is behind the glove box on that one. Should be a black box with a short pigtail coming out of it. Remove it and see if you can turn the knob for the blend door. If it spins freely than the blend door is broken. If there is resistance and you can move the blend door to full hot and full cold than plug the actuator in and adjust the temp at the heater controls. If it doesn't move that you can check to see if it is getting power and ground and go from there.

And if the door is broken then it sounds like a long job having to pull the thing apart. Thre is not much room for anything and it sure seems to be crammed in there! I hope that I will be able to turn it to full hot and forget it. Have a good one././Jimbo

There not bad. Our part time guy just did his heater core on his and his wifes jeep at home. Took him about a day (12 hours) for each. He installed the heatertreater metal blend doors at the same time. You'll need to have the a/c evacuated and recharged also.

Well I pulled the glove box out and found what you were talking about. The motor does not move when I adjust the temp from hi to lo. I spun the piece the motor moves and it just free wheels and nothing happens. I did turn it very slowly counter clockwise and heard something clunk and I had heat on the drivers side. Ah ha I thought that I had it and figured I would just leave it that way till next spring. Well the next time the jeep was started it was blowing ciold air again. Is there a way to take a dremel and cut that box open and then move the door where I want it and just secure it there some how? I really do not want to take the 12 hours to pull the thing apart and replace the door and motor. Or are there too many passageways in there to allow it to be cut open? Just wondering. thanks for any help! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo
