bucktailsam
When out duck hunting does anyone throw out any geese decoys? if so how many? and would you put them off to the side, or in the mix?
buckx37x
it doesnt take to many,we put 3-6 off to the side. sat. the geese that came into us were singles up to a flock of around thirty.we called like crazy to them they really wanted that. but on sun. they were silent and wanted no part of our calling. as far as mixing always have better luck seperating them, although sat we had a loner land in close to us right among the duck deks. benbosh
we usually put out 4 or 8. we only have 8 but like buckx37x said better seperating them and saturday called hard and they came and sunday would hardly look. saturday had a pair circling and they passed over and started coming around and another group pass shot them and dropped one
dan z
as many as you can, sometimes we have out more honkers than ducks IE: sunday we had out about 70 floating geese and 5-6 dozen ducks. mallards/gadwalls will suck into honker decoys just like they do with mallard decoys
Gordie
I agree with DanZ as many as you for the water you are hunting I had out as many as 5 dozen and as few as 2 it all depends on the body of water you are hunting
RaininFeathers
You only need a few unless you are in an area with a ton of geese. If you are ok at calling two to four will work. I have called them in multiple times without decoys. I usually put them up wind a ways in a seperate pod because besides teal and woodies ducks don't seem to burn into them much. Fred_Bear
I take it you guys are talking about water... Because in the field a good spread is as many honkers as you can get out there and then throw a couple dozen ducks behind the blinds with spinners by the blinds. The ducks will finish perfect right into the goose dekes, but honkers will skirt a spread of mostly ducks and land to the sides almost every time.
