Odometer not showing.

Recommended Posts

The step by step pretty much says check all the connections at the instrument cluster for proper contact. If those check out than replace the instrument cluster. This is if the odometer never works. There is a self test you can do. I cant remember specifically what to do but I know you hold the odo/trip reset button in while turning the key to the run position. As soon as the display changes you press it again. than keep pressing until the desired test is displayed and that's where the old ticker starts to draw a blank.

I could be wrong, but I think the odometer having a self test depends on the cluster option?

I would assume you have just the thin little bar displaying green numbers?

This was a common issue and a cluster repair or replace was pretty much the only fix. When it happens, bang your fist on the dash above the speedo cluster. If the display comes back on, you have an inside cluster issue. You could always removed and check connections, but I assume is is a loose connection at a solder point on the circuit board inside cluster.

I though Jer had a real informative post once (with pics) on tackling a similar issue, but on a GM?

This is a common issue, I would send the cluster in for repair. Just remember though, the truck will not start after you install it, the keys will need to be reprogrammed with an OE scan tool, and a dealer will more then likely have to do this.
