Found some of these in my front yard yesterday. I've never found any morrells before, but it looks like the pictures I have seen. They came up with some sort of copper colored "cap" on them that peeled away. There was also some slime on them.

Any ideas?

Absolutely not morels.

Definitely some sort of stinkhorn, many of which have quite "suggestive" shapes resulting in a number of off-color names. They almost universally smell foul, and are slimey, which morels never are. Stink horn is a very accurate description for a general name. Morels NEVER have a peelable cap.
