Drag settings for various bass techniques

Not to rain on your parade, but that seems like a good way to damage your rods. If you are dead lifting that weight from the 9 o'clock position to 12 o'clock that will put unnecessary pressure on the rod blank. Another point, there are 16 ounces in a pound, so three cans at 25 ounces is a little less than three pounds...just sayin'.

bemidjibasser,

I should've been more clear. First, 15 fl oz + weight of the can itself will equal more than 1 lb. I have a food scale at home and a 15 oz can of soup will be more than 1 lb.

Also, as you lift the rod from the 9 o'clock position, I should've stressed that you do not need to go to the full 12 o'clock position (i have edited my previous post to avoid confusion). Just lift it up enough so the bag barely comes off the ground. If the drag is slipping still, it's too loose. Also, if your rod blank can't handle 3 lbs of weight, won't your rod snap if you catch any fish of size? I have been doing this for several years and none of my rods have been broken. Also, I am pretty sure this tip was given at Bassresource by a guy that builds custom rods for a living.
